Tripping at work

Posted by orione on July 27, 2006

For the last few days i am trying to coordinate thought on a interesting technical concept and the creative juices arent so free flowing. Blaming it on the monsoon lethargy, too much of workout at the gym or better still my associate is out of town so covering up work. But this is one assignment i want to finish asap as it involves so many things so what i plan to do is to lug the laptop and change my venue of work until i finish the exercise. Planning to go to some resort and sit on this and finish it. As a preamble to it i am having a brainstorming session later today to ensure that i collect all thoughts together on this. Hopefully i will make it back in time for the Blogcamp organizer meeting.

Some Thoughts on Retirement Planning

Posted by orione on July 25, 2006

Hi Friends, today we have a new blogger joining us in serving his tiome on earth… He is Ganesh. Ganesh comes from an extensive financial experience. He is a Financial planner for High networth individuals (HNI). This happens to be his maiden post. Great to go ganesh…There is nothing certain except DEATH ! This should never stop anyone from planning for the later years !A Gentleman aged 65 years, who was my neighbour, requested me to get a job for him. He said his monthly requirement is a minimum of Rs.10,000/-, for which he had no other option than to take up a job. This person was with a pharma company, retired from the rank of a Regional Manager. Surprising !!!!!!

Similarly, a relative of mine often gets himself into troubled waters, by taking more loans than what he could pay. I have two more cases of aged people, struggling for day to day living, with whom I am interacting on a daily basis. But the eseence of the experience is one and the same.

If they had saved something for the later years, they would have been self sufficient or rather happy. This is where the concept of RETIREMENT PLANNING is apt.

What is Retirement Planning all about ?

It is a two step process

1) Build a corpus, by contributing atleast 10% of annual income, on a regular basis, every year

2) Invest this corpus at a later date, to get safe and steady returns for covering the risk of living too long

For building a corpus, there are Options to choose from :

a) Conventional Pension Plans

b) Systematic Investing in Equity Mutual Funds

c) Market Linked Investments like ULIPs

d) Investment in Real Estate

Depending on one’s risk taking ability & income, these options have to be considered. Some times, it would be better to have more than one option like real estate and conventional pension plans, in order to have an effective risk reward ratio.

Do’s & Dont’s

1) Start as early as possible (Boris Becker won wimbledon at the age of 17, investing is certainly not tough like winning wimbledon )

2) Review once in 3 years

3) Give Investments time to grow

4) Beat Inflation

1) Don’t utilise the fund for emergencies

2) Don’t diversify too much

3) Don’t underachieve retirement corpus

As the great Financial Educator Robert T Kiyosaki says “ONE BITE AT A TIME IS HOW YOU CAN EAT AN ELEPHANT “. A little contribution towards retirement corpus on a regular basis, started early, can definitely end up becoming a huge elephant.

Bloggers RFI (Right for information)

Posted by orione on July 21, 2006

I just returned back from a business trip of 5 days totally occupied on things that i had missed one of the red calls of the blogging community. Banning and blocking of blogs in a democratic society and measures taken were so absurd. All the govt. had to do was block a couple of websites and a couple of blogs. We are against terrorism and propoganda supporting such unjust cause. But to treat all blogs in generality to the same treatment and blame it in the name of Terrorism is taking things too far…This is India and we are celebrating democracy for the last 5 decades

Splinter groups and misguided youth taking advantage of technology is not new to the world. Back in 70’s didnt the same happen in USA when every person in the street was on a peak for the right to carry a fire arm and the subsequent ATF. There are a lot of bloggers who do pitch in some good viewpoints and it might be anti establishment or rhetoric but that doesnt give the right to censor such views.

The forthcoming blog camp is also going to have this as one hot topic of discussion and debate. Hope we all find some neutral ground on the same such that even the blogger can take the responsibility to curb activitues like terrorism and come out with ideas on the same .

Blog Camp Update meeting!

Posted by orione on July 9, 2006

This morning there was an update meeting with regards to the upcoming India’s First Blog camp. Here are some pointers of what has happened

We found out definite leads on setting the venue as IIT Chennai. Now its Kribs to roll!

We have leads to pursue to get Krish Srikanth and Rajdeep Sardesai to the event. Thanx Aish!

The website design and content to be developed by hitesh and content developed by Syed (me) and Kiruba and to be up with all complete as on wednesday!

We had Deccan Chronicle covering this meeting for their paper due on wednesday! Thanks Nandu and Jason!

A solid plan was put in place with a strategy for covering sponsorship. Before we hit on this plan we need some parameters in place like the site with closure on venue a full fledged sponsor invitation and all that ….

Ok now all i think of is to to hit for the finals FIFA 2006. My bet is on France and all pumped up for action to start in 1 more hr. Good Night Folks!
